Swindon Honda factory staff return to full-time work

Workers at Honda's Swindon plant have returned to work on a full-time basis.

More than 3,000 staff have been working reduced hours of three half-shifts per week since September after floods in Thailand affected the car manufacturer's supply of components.

The workforce stayed on full pay during this period and built up a balance of hours to owe the firm.

Andy Piatek, from Honda, said he was unsure how long it would take staff to work their banked hours.

He said: "We've taken the same approach, as we did for the tsunami, that workers can bank those hours and we're going to go into a 46-hour working pattern when we return in January.

"That will give the opportunity for the company to recover those hours."
