A four-day inquiry into plans to build 890 homes on land near Coate Water park in Swindon has started.

The proposals, by Persimmon and Redrow Homes, were turned down by Swindon Borough Council in June.

In 2009, plans to build houses, offices and a University of Bath campus on the land were rejected.

Following an appeal by the developers, the Planning Inspectorate is reviewing the proposals at the hearing at the Steam Museum in Swindon.
