Volunteers begin running Purton Library

A community library in Wiltshire which was taken over by a group of volunteers is set to open later.

Purton Library will be run by a team of more than 40 local residents.

Conservative-led Wiltshire Council threatened to close five mobile routes and 10 of the 31 libraries it runs. The council also made 17 staff redundant.

More than 300 volunteers in Wiltshire were trained by the council to run the facilities. New opening hours for Purton Library take effect from Monday.
