Healthy stray dogs may be put down in Swindon

Healthy stray dogs in Swindon may be put down as there are too many of them to care for.

Swindon Borough Council says its pound is overcrowded and it does not have the resources to care for all of the dogs.

The amount of dogs abandoned in the town has increased dramatically over the last year, with fewer people adopting.

Animal officer Alison Waine said: "The number has steadily increased over the years and we are now at crisis point."

"We do not want to put dogs to sleep but we might not have any choice about that."
