Wiltshire Police under-age drink operation 'working'

Wiltshire Police say it is "encouraging" that all six licensed premises visited by volunteers aged under 18 refused to serve them alcohol.

It follows an operation in Salisbury on Friday which saw officers and two volunteers aged 15 and 16, taking part.

Police said all six premises challenged the youngsters and either refused them entry, or declined to serve them alcohol.

A force spokesman said it appeared the regular operations were working.

David Bennett, the force's licensing manager, said: "It is really encouraging to see all the venues visited have refused to allow the youngsters to purchase alcohol.

"This has not been the case on previous operations held elsewhere within Wiltshire, which leads me to believe the regular use of this tactic is working to improve ID procedures within the county's licensed premises."

He said the operations would continue.
