Wiltshire Council documents found in wheelie bin

An investigation has been launched after a bag full of birth registrations and internal council emails was found in a household bin in Wiltshire.

A couple from Westbury found the Wiltshire Council documents in their wheelie bin soon after it had been emptied.

The documents were traced back to Trowbridge.

A council spokesman apologised and said the authority was satisfied none of the data was sensitive.

The spokesman said: "We would like to apologise for any inconvenience this has caused, and can assure people we are taking the incident very seriously.

"All of the information has been recovered, and we are satisfied that none of the data was sensitive, however, we are conducting a joint investigation with our contractors.

"Our procedures regarding personal data are robust, however if we find these have been breached we will take appropriate action."
