Swindon Borough Council to shed 64 home care jobs
More than 60 home care jobs are to go at Swindon Borough Council.
It says it is closing the department, which offers support to vulnerable people in their own homes, as it can be provided cheaper by private companies.
A council spokesman said it would be holding meetings with staff on the redundancies and highlighting other potential jobs within the council.
"The council's been striving to provide value for money in home care and has significantly reduced costs," he said.
"However, despite this and due to the financial pressures currently facing the council, our commissioners have decided the service can still be provided more cheaply and will instead move the hours of long-term care currently delivered in-house to the private sector.
"Transfer will begin on 1 March and be completed by 31 March."
