Swindon walk to school scheme wins funding

Walk to school zones are to be introduced at some Swindon schools after the town was awarded £22,000.

The borough council and NHS Swindon will target primary schools where many children who are driven in could walk there in five minutes.

It is hoped the scheme will help to reduce car congestion and make the areas outside schools safer.

Fiona Dickens from NHS Swindon said walking was "an excellent way for children to get some extra exercise".
