Dental practice in Chippenham officially opens
An NHS dental practice which aims to provide treatment for 12,000 people has been officially opened in Chippenham.
The Hathaway Dental Practice, which opened earlier this year, is the "flagship" of a £3m investment by NHS Wiltshire in dentistry for the county.
The practice currently has 5,500 patients on its books, but it is hoped another 6,500 people will be able to be treated within the next two years.
Maggie Rae from NHS Wiltshire said dental services had "improved greatly".
She said: "It's so much more improved from the dreadful state it was a couple of years ago. It really needed that investment and I think we're starting to see a difference but we're not finished our programme yet."
Ms Rae added the biggest problem was people not turning up for appointments they had booked which meant other people who were struggling to get one could not.
"I'm still struggling with people who say they can't find one as I want people to flood the system and try and get one. I'm sure people who are talking about it (not getting an appointment) are actually just scared to go."
