Number of Swindon rough sleepers doubles in two weeks

A homeless charity is appealing for blankets after a rise in the number of rough sleepers in Swindon.

Threshold Housing Link said the number of people sleeping on the streets had doubled in the past two weeks - rising from five to about a dozen.

Phil Smith, from the charity, said: "Unfortunately many of the people sleeping rough at the moment are young and difficult to accommodate.

"We hope this rise is a blip as we normally see a gradual increase."
