Loose cows evade police on A303 in Wiltshire

A road in Wiltshire has returned to running normally after delays were caused by reports of a cow and a calf running loose along the carriageway.

Police and a farmer were called at about 1130 BST to recapture the two animals on the eastbound side of the A303 near Mere.

The road was not closed but the incident, which lasted just over an hour, caused delays.

A police spokeswoman said neither the cow nor the calf had been found.
