Retired Wiltshire couple conned out of life savings

A retired couple in Wiltshire have lost their life savings to fraudsters who said they had won a large prize.

A police spokesman said the pair had sent more than £80,000 to criminals in Spain, but did not receive anything.

The force is reminding people to be wary of letters, e-mails and phone calls about lottery prizes.

Victims are told to send money for various fees, which the scammers say are necessary to release the "winnings".

Det Con Andrew Cook, from Wiltshire Police's economic crime unit, said: "Never under any circumstances send any money to these people - the fact is that there are no winnings."
