Three Durham Prison officers injured in attack
Three prison officers have been injured in an attack by an inmate at Durham Prison.
They were taken to hospital for treatment following the incident on Tuesday.
No further details about what happened or the extent of the prison officers' injuries have been released.
The Prison Service spokesperson said an internal and police investigation had been launched to try to establish what happened.
The spokesperson said: "Three prison officers from HMP Durham were treated at outside hospital for injuries sustained during an incident on Tuesday 15 November.
"Violence in prisons is not tolerated in any form. Assaults on prison staff are taken very seriously and this incident is now subject to an internal and police investigation."
