A man has been arrested after a seven-hour police stand-off at a house in County Durham.

Officers were called to the detached house in Railway Close, Sherburn Village, at about 1100 BST on Wednesday by bailiffs trying to evict the man.

Durham Police said the incident ended shortly before 1830 BST, when the man was arrested. No-one was hurt.

A spokesman said the 33-year-old was being held on suspicion of making threats to kill.

A force spokesman said no-one else was in the property at the time.
