Pedestrian struck by police vehicle in Sunderland

A pedestrian was injured when he was hit by a police vehicle in Sunderland.

The marked vehicle was responding to an incident when the accident happened on Ormonde Street early on Sunday.

The 18-year-old suffered a suspected fractured knee and was taken to hospital.

Police said the siren and blue lights had been activated prior to the accident, and inquires were ongoing to establish the exact circumstances.
