Thefts devastate County Durham teenage bird breeder

A County Durham teenager has been left devastated after thieves broke into his aviary and stole more than 90 birds.

It is thought offenders deliberately targeted the premises at the rear garden of a house in Emerson Way, Newton Aycliffe overnight on Tuesday.

The haul, valued at £12,000, included 90 budgerigars belonging to 15-year-old Chad Kemp, who has successfully bred a Dutch bloodline.

A parrot and two canaries were also taken, along with the breeding logbook.

This provides evidence of the bloodline of the stolen birds.

Police believe that the theft was carried out by someone with knowledge of birds, and have appealed for information.
