Revamp planned for heritage park in County Durham

Work is due to start to revamp South Moor Memorial Park in County Durham.

A new picnic area, a multi-use games area and a skate park is planned for the local heritage site.

There will also be added green space and the development of wildlife habitats. Other work will include improving access to the existing footpath network.

The project has been co-ordinated by Groundwork North East, supported by Durham County Council.

It has been led by South Moor Partnership.

The scheme has received funding from Durham County Council and has also received grants from the Big Lottery Fund.

Darren McMahon, of South Moor Partnership, said: "We are very pleased to see this project start.

"It has taken us several years of hard work to reach this point and we are looking forward to seeing it finished for the local community to enjoy."
