Electricity poles sawn through in Houghton-le-Spring

Vandals partially sawed through electricity poles in Houghton-le-Spring, police said.

The bases of four poles in Golf Course Road were damaged sometime between 2 January and 9 January.

The damage was discovered when one of the poles carrying high voltage electricity collapsed into a field.

Northumbria Police neighbourhood Insp Graham Finlay said the offenders had put themselves and the public at serious risk.
