Man badly hurt in County Durham crossing crash

A pedestrian was critically injured when he was hit by a car while using a County Durham zebra crossing.
The 59-year-old man was taken to the University Hospital of North Durham with a severe head injury and with both legs fractured.
The collision happened on Station Road, Annfield Plain, on Wednesday evening. The road was closed for three hours.
The 44-year-old male driver of the car, from Consett, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.
