Man killed by motorbike in County Durham

A man was killed when he was hit by a motorbike while walking home from a night out in County Durham.

John Copeland, from St Andrews Crescent, Consett, died on the A693 at the junction with Loud Bank near Anfield Plain at 0520 BST on Monday.

Police believe the 28-year-old, known as Ted, stepped into the path of the motorbike.

The 42-year-old rider, also from Consett, suffered facial injuries and is being treated in hospital.
