Tourists are being asked to help in the search for a missing County Durham man who was last seen at a riverside wedding reception.

Stephen Burn, 26, from Witton Gilbert, was at the evening reception at Durham Rowing Club on 28 August when he left after a row with his girlfriend.

Police divers have begun searching the River Wear close to the rowing club.

Tourists who were in Durham over the August Bank Holiday are also being asked if they saw Mr Burn.

Mr Burn, a keen Sunderland supporter, was last seen wearing a blue shirt, black trousers and black shoes.

Police believe he left the rowing club sometime after 2330 BST and may have headed in the direction of Baths Bridge.

They have also issued a photo of Mr Burn taken outside the rowing club just hours before he disappeared.

A Durham Police spokesman said: "Over that weekend a number of people were staying in caravans or motorhomes on land just to the rear of the rowing club.

"Even though it was dark we are hoping some of them may recall seeing Stephen, who with his ginger hair and blue shirt would have stood out."
