Three people have been arrested on suspicion of murder after the body of a man was found tied up in a house.

The victim, believed to be in his 20s, was found in Grange Villa near Chester-le-Street, on Saturday evening.

Police said during a routine visit to the house in Pine Street, officers became suspicious and, after forcing entry, found the man inside one of the bedrooms.

Men aged 18 and 25 and a 19-year-old woman have been remanded in custody.

A 19-year-old man has also been arrested in connection with the investigation.

The victim is believed to have been seriously assaulted.

No-one else was present in the house at the time and it is believed those involved were known to each other, police said.

Investigating officer, Det Supt Adrian Green, said: "We are actively trying to trace other individuals in connection with this murder."
