Four hurt as police van collides with taxi

A police van collided with a taxi in Newcastle and flipped on its side, leaving the officers inside trapped.

Two officers had to be cut from the wreckage when their vehicle overturned at the junction of Barrack Road and Brighton Grove at 21:00 GMT on Sunday.

Two passengers in the taxi and the officers were taken to hospital. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

An investigation into the incident has begun.
