A man was seriously injured when he fell on board a ship in the North Sea.

North East Ambulance Service paramedics were taken by RNLI lifeboat to the Brasschaat, which was anchored more than a mile off Tynemouth.

No information has been released on the condition of the man, who is believed to have fallen from a height at about 14:30 BST.

A number of crew members were later brought to shore by a coastguard helicopter.

The Brasschaat is one of three vessels which have been moored off Tynemouth since July after the company owning them went bust.
