Disqualified driver admits Gateshead teen death crash

A disqualified driver who had no insurance has admitted causing a crash which killed a teenager.

Tyrone Quinn, 20, of Felling, admitted causing death by dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and having no insurance at Newcastle Crown Court.

James Docherty, 17, died at the junction of Redheugh Bridge and Askew Road West in Gateshead at 04:00 BST on Sunday 24 July.

Quinn was remanded in custody and will be sentenced on 24 October.

Two men also suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash.

Three other men arrested were released with no further action.
