A man who died after being assaulted in a Tyneside flat has been named by police.

Dean Bowe, 32, was found with a head injury at the property on South Parade, Whitley Bay on 7 September.

Jonathan Armstrong, 44, of the same address, has been charged with murder.

Mr Bowe's family said they had been left "reeling from the shock" at the sudden death of a "thoughtful, funny and intelligent" man.

In a statement they added: "Dean was gentle, kind and did not like anything cruel in the world.

"Everyone is reeling from the shock, it has been a horrible shock for all the family.

"We were so close and everyone will miss him so much."
