A plaque has been unveiled in Gateshead to commemorate the life of a solider killed in Afghanistan.

Corporal Steven Dunn was patrolling a district of Helmand in 2010 when his vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb.

The plaque, at Dunn Court in Kirkwood Gardens, is close to where he lived and was unveiled by members from his 216 (Parachute) Signal Squadron.

His uncle, Peter Nailon, said it was "fantastic" to see the community honouring his life.

Cpl Dunn, 27, died four days before Christmas and is survived by his wife Cheryl and daughter Emily.
