An Albanian man arrested on suspicion of an immigration offence after his brain tumour surgery was cancelled has been released from hospital.

Lorenc Hoxha, 27, was arrested last week for allegedly no longer having leave to stay in the UK.

He was then readmitted to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary after reportedly collapsing in a restaurant on Wednesday but has been discharged.

The RVI said he was "not in need of emergency clinical intervention".

He was also declared fit to travel and a hospital in Albania has said it will provide care for him.

Mr Hoxha has been given temporary permission to stay in the UK by immigration officials.

He has received support from TV presenter Si King, of the Hairy Bikers, who offered to pay for the operation.
