Ebola tests in Newcastle on two children are negative
Two children who were being tested for Ebola in Newcastle have been cleared of having the deadly virus.
Public Health England said the "precautionary tests" have returned negative results.
The children had shown viral symptoms and spent time in Africa before coming to the UK.
A spokesman said: "The overall risk to the general UK population of imported Ebola continues to be very low."
The youngsters were being tested at the infectious diseases isolation unit at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, one of three units outside London able to care for patients with infectious diseases such as Ebola.
The spokesman said: "Public Health England can confirm that the precautionary tests carried out on two children in Newcastle for Ebola are negative."
