John Crout admits wife's manslaughter but denies murder

A Newcastle man has appeared in court to admit killing his wife.

The body of Sheila Crout, 65, was found by police called to a house in Lismore Place, Benwell, in June.

At Newcastle Crown Court via videolink, John Crout, 63, and also of Lismore Place, pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility. He denied murder.

A trial date was set for 24 November and he was remanded in custody. A pre-trial review was set for 3 November.
