Landslip-hit Rothbury road to remain closed until 2015, council says
A road which shut on Boxing Day due to a landslip could remain closed for another two years.
The B6344 at Rothbury, a main road into the town, has been closed since it cracked in four places and was deemed "highly unstable".
Northumberland County Council said it had experienced "many difficulties" during the repair work, as the ground continued to move.
It said the road could stay closed until the latter part of 2015.
The council said although this was the "worst case scenario" it was important to do the "best possible job".
Wet weather during the winter could also "worsen" conditions, the council said, as it could cause the ground to move more readily.
Work has also been complicated by the fact the area is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, the council added.
A diversion which is in place through Longframlington adds four miles (6.5km) to the usual journey.
