One of three defendants accused of killing a man on his way home from a night out in South Shields has changed his plea to guilty.

Keith Honeyman was to stand trial alongside Paul Carr, 31, and a 16-year-old, who cannot be named, over the death of David Charlton, 25.

The 20-year-old of Alice Street, South Shields, has now pleaded guilty.

Mr Carr of Hudson Street, South Shields, and the teenager deny murder at a trial at Newcastle Crown Court.

Honeyman will be sentenced at a later date.

Mr Charlton was killed as he made his way home from the Last Orders pub in South Shields with his fiancee on December 21 last year.
