Detectives investigating the death of a 33-year-old man in County Durham have announced they urgently need to trace a piece of clothing.

David Scott died in hospital in Newcastle after he was found with stab wounds in Rose Avenue, Stanley, on 23 December 2012.

Police are searching for a sky blue body warmer which they believe was dumped in the area.

Two 16-year-old boys have been charged with murder.

They cannot be identified for legal reasons.

The sleeveless Mckenzie body warmer is padded and has a hood, police said.

Det Supt Paul Goundry said: "I want to hear from anyone who may have seen any items of clothing dumped at the roadside, either in a bag or loose, any clothing which looks like it's been destroyed by burning, or clothing left in a bin which has been put out for collection."
