A taxi marshal scheme will be in place in North Tyneside over Christmas to keep drinkers safe.

The marshals will be at taxi rank queues in South Parade in Whitley Bay and Front Street in Tynemouth to help people get home safely.

Northumbria Police are also increasing their foot patrols in the area during the Christmas party season.

The scheme, which is funded by the North Tyneside Strategic Partnership, will run until New Year's Day.
