Concerns of Newcastle bank staff lead to fraud arrests

Concerns by bank staff on Tyneside over repeated withdrawals by an elderly customer led to the arrest of three people on suspicion of fraud.

Staff at a branch in Newcastle, became concerned when the customer, a man in his 70s, was seen handing over large quantities of cash to another man.

Two men aged 46 and 19 and a woman aged 40 were later arrested on suspicion of fraud and bailed pending inquiries.

Police said the arrests were linked to building work at the customer's home.
