The family of a man stabbed to death in County Durham have said he will be "sadly missed".

Steven McIntyre, 37, was found injured at his home in Austen Place, Stanley, in the early hours of Saturday. He died shortly afterwards in hospital.

A post-mortem examination showed he died from multiple wounds to the chest.

His stepson, 19-year-old Christopher Hodgson, appeared before Consett magistrates on Monday charged with murder.

He was remanded in custody to appear before Newcastle Crown Court on Tuesday.

A woman, 37 and girl, 17, who were also arrested have been released.

A statement released by Mr McIntyre's family said: "Steve will be sadly missed and we would like to grieve in private."

Mr McIntyre lived with his partner, their seven-year-old daughter and his two stepchildren at their home.
