Man dies at Longhoughton Quarry in Northumberland

A worker has died after an incident at a Northumberland quarry, police said.

The 58-year-old, who has not been named, was found in a water-filled hole at Longhoughton Quarry, near Alnwick, on Saturday afternoon.

Northumbria police said the man, who is from Northumberland, had been operating excavating machinery.

He was taken to Wansbeck General Hospital, but pronounced dead. Police and Health and Safety Executive officials are investigating.
