Newcastle United's Nile Ranger charged with assaults
Newcastle United striker Nile Ranger has been charged with assault offences following a disturbance outside a pub.
The 20-year-old was arrested early on 27 August after a 33-year-old man was found unconscious outside Cosy Joes, in the Groat Market, Newcastle.
Mr Ranger is accused of two counts of common assault and two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
He is due to appear before Newcastle Magistrates' Court on 18 November. Newcastle United has not commented.
Two Northumbria Police officers suffered minor injuries during the player's arrest, police said.
Mr Ranger, who joined the club in 2008, was told to find a new club in the summer after several warnings about his discipline.
