A driver has denied killing a Tyneside "Good Samaritan" who was run over while going to help an injured motorcyclist.

Steven Black, 27, of Kenton in Newcastle, pleaded not guilty to manslaughter and a charge of dangerous driving at Newcastle Crown Court.

Father-of-three Michael Ritson, 33, died after being hit by a car in Gateshead in March when he stopped to help an injured biker.

Mr Black was granted unconditional bail until his trial on 9 January.

Mr Ritson, from Jarrow, South Tyneside, suffered head injuries and died in hospital three days after the incident on the Felling Bypass on 27 March.
