Wideopen play park damaged in arson attack

Thousands of pounds worth of damage have been caused to a children's playground in an arson attack.

The attack was carried out at Lockey Park on Great North Road, Wideopen, in North Tyneside, on Sunday evening, but information has just been released.

Northumbria Police said the park's roundabout was badly damaged and said it was an "appalling" attack on a community facility.

They are appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious to come forward.
