Horses have manes and tails cut in Gateshead

Two horses had their manes and tails cut off in Gateshead, police said.

The horses were attacked in a field on Wardley Lane, Bill Quay sometime overnight on Saturday.

In another, possibly related incident, a seven-month-old foal was found dead with its tail partially removed in stables on Wardley Lane.

The owner discovered the dead foal on Monday when attending the stables to care for his animals.

Police are appealing for witnesses.

They believe the attackers may have had to chase the horses to cut off their manes and tails and want to hear from anyone who may have witnessed such activity.
