Man charged with South Shields shop attempted robbery

A man has been charged after an attempted robbery at a shop in South Shields involving a hammer.

Police were called to the Costcutters store in Nevinson Avenue on Sunday, after reports of a man on the premises armed with a hammer.

A 22-year-old was arrested and has been charged with attempted robbery. He is due to appear at South Tyneside Magistrates' Court later.

Two other men, aged 21 and 23, arrested later have been bailed.
