Men arrested after hammer raid at shop in South Shields

Three men have been arrested after an attempted robbery at a shop in South Shields.

Police were called to the Costcutters store in Nevinson Avenue on Sunday, where they arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of attempted robbery.

Officers recovered a hammer from the scene. They later arrested two other men, aged 21 and 23, also on suspicion of attempted robbery.

All three are in custody, Northumbria Police confirmed.
