A landmark university building is being given an £8m makeover.

Newcastle University's students' union was built in 1924 by architect Robert Burns Dick, whose company also designed the towers of the Tyne Bridge.

The six-floor interior of the building will be transformed in the project and the aim is to help more students use it services.

It will include a new space for gigs, bars and cafe areas and offices for the student newspaper and radio station.
