Manslaughter charge after Newcastle street attack death

A man has been charged with manslaughter after another man died after an assault in Newcastle.

The 38-year-old, whose name has not yet been released, suffered serious head injuries in the attack outside Sgt Peppers, in Vine Lane, late on Friday.

He died on Tuesday, and Northumbria Police began a homicide investigation.

A 31-year-old Kenton man, arrested on Monday on suspicion of assault, has now been charged with manslaughter. He is due to appear before magistrates later.

Two other people arrested in connection with the incident have been bailed pending further inquiries.
