Tyneside victim's eye socket broken in robbery

A 20-year-old man suffered a broken eye socket after being assaulted by a gang of five robbers.

The victim was with a 19-year-old man when he was set upon by the group near the tennis courts, in Leazes Park, Newcastle, on Saturday night.

Both men were punched in the face and robbed. They were taken to Newcastle General Hospital for treatment.

The robbers were aged between about 19 and 28 years. One had short, black hair and was wearing a grey tracksuit.
