Arrest after security guard robbed in Northumberland

A man has been arrested following an attack on a security guard in Northumberland.

The guard was delivering cash to a shop at College Road in Ashington, on Friday afternoon when he was approached by a man.

Following a disturbance, during which the guard suffered minor injures, a cash box containing an undisclosed amount of money was stolen.

Police later arrested the 31-year-old man on suspicion of robbery.

Northumbria Police is continuing to appeal for witnesses or anyone with information about the incident at 1625 BST to come forward.
