A community play park is to be created on Teesside after a council agreed to gift land to a residents' group.

Middlesbrough Council is to transfer management of an area at Esk Street, in North Ormesby, to the North Ormesby Neighbourhood Development Trust on a 25-year lease.

The pavilion that previously occupied the land was demolished in 2013.

Funding will be provided by North Ormesby Big Local, which is benefiting from £1m of lottery cash over 10 years.

Ward councillor Lewis Young, who is also Middlesbrough Council's executive member for culture, leisure and sport, said consultations with people in the area had "always put a new park high on the agenda".
