Bishop Auckland man dies after being hit by car

A man has died after being struck by a car.

The 51-year-old is believed to have been injured as he walked along Newton Cap Viaduct, Bishop Auckland, County Durham, shortly before 05:00 BST.

Police said the victim was "local" and was taken by ambulance to Darlington Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The viaduct was closed for several hours while emergency services worked at the scene.
