Work begins on Hartlepool project to power 4,000 homes

Work is due to begin in the next few weeks on a green energy park which is expected to provide electricity for 4,000 homes.

Hartlepool Council said the Biopower Group Ltd development, in Brenda Road, would turn food waste into power.

The project is expected to take about 18 months to complete, but electricity could be generated early in 2017.

Steve Winspear, managing director of Biopower, said there was scope for further construction on the site.
